NAEP Members Offer Pro Bono Environmental Services To The Gulf Region

The President and Board of Directors of the National Association of Environmental Professionals (NAEP) approved an effort to assemble and publicize a list of its members who will offer pro bono professional services to support hurricane relief efforts.

BOWIE, MD / PR FREE / Oct 21 2005 --
The President and Board of Directors of the National Association of Environmental Professionals (NAEP) approved an effort to assemble and publicize a list of its members who will offer pro bono professional services to support hurricane relief efforts in the impacted Gulf Coast region. NAEP is a professional non-profit organization that represents a diverse group of environmental practitioners throughout the United States and abroad. Gary F. Kelman, NAEP president, stated that the effort "is something that NAEP can do efficiently and effectively because of our members' experience and knowledge in all aspects of environmental problem solving. Environmental professionals are used to reacting quickly in all types of emergency situations."

NAEP Board member Dr. Robert Michaels proposed the Hurricane Relief Initiative and is coordinating it for NAEP. According to Dr. Michaels, "the timing of this NAEP action is favorable. Environmental assessment and remediation services will be required increasingly now that search and rescue operations are winding down. Indeed, the issues of environmental quality and human habitability must be addressed wherever rehabitation and rebuilding are contemplated."

NAEP pursued a similar initiative during the aftermath of the Indian Ocean Tsunami. "The diversity of NAEP specialists allows for the public and private sector to have access to experienced environmental managers fairly easily," said Kelman.

NAEP plans to maintain the volunteer list in hopes of expediting contact between those in need of professional environmental services and environmental practitioners volunteering to provide such services. Interested individuals may contact NAEP, or may contact volunteers directly, to augment web-based information describing listed services. Neither Dr. Michaels nor NAEP explicitly or implicitly warrants listed services. Services are to be arranged privately, based upon agreements to be made solely between potential service users and potential service providers.
