Timberland Trails: A New Yurt-Based Lodging And Recreation Business Opens In The Mount Washington Valley

Forest Recreation (FRI), founders of the Phillips Brook Recreation Area, and Frost Mountain Yurts (FMY) announce a new marketing partnership. Frost Mountain Yurts, a new family-run business, provides yurt-based lodging and recreation for families, coup

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
CONWAY, New Hampshire / PR FREE / Feb 03 2005 --
FMY is located at the base of Frost Mountain in Brownfield, ME. The owners, Patrick and Erica Fagan, offer a secluded getaway that combines the best of camping with dorm-style lodging. The yurt, a semi-permanent round tent structure, was originally used by nomads in Tibet. While they are commonly used as huts in the mountains out West, they are still relatively unknown in the East.

The FMY yurt is located in the heart of a 17 acre private forest complete with brooks and birch groves. It has bunks for 6, a wood stove, full kitchen setup, plus a spacious deck. Tent sites are available for additional guests.

Three more yurt sites are in the planning stages.

Patrick has cut short trail loops right outside the yurt perfect for skiing or snowshoeing with the kids. Adventurous types wanting more of a challenge can hike up to the top of 1200 foot Frost Mountain. In addition, the yurt is close to 4 seasons worth of sports. Snowmobilers can access the Burnt Meadows Snowmobile Club trail system, Shawnee Peak is 20 minutes away, and the Saco River and Lovewell Pond boat launch are just down the road. There are plenty of trails available for bikers, hikers, and horseback riders nearby. And, the Mount Washington Valley is just 25 minutes away.

Yurts are a very affordable lodging option, especially for families. The cost is $75 per night for one person or a couple and $10 per person up to 6 people. Kids five and under visit for free. Tent sites are $14 per night per couple. Dogs are welcome.

Brownfield is an hour and a half west of Portland, two hours north of Portsmouth, and two and one half hours from Boston. It is located on the outskirts of the Mount Washington Valley and close to all the attractions, including the annual Fryeburg Fair.

For more information about Frost Mountain Yurts, please visit www.phillipsbrook.org , email us at yurts@phillipsbrook.org ,or call 1-800-trails8 to speak with William Altenburg, CEO of Forest Recreation.

Forest Recreation, located in Conway, NH, operated the Phillips Brook Backcountry Recreation Area in northern New Hampshire for six years. It was the largest yurt and trail system in the U.S., with 24,000 acres, hundreds of miles of trails and logging roads, ten yurts and a large lodge. Forced to close when their land lease was not renewed, FRI has been renting out two remote yurts in New Hampshire while they negotiate the purchase of a new tract of land for a new yurt-to-yurt system.
