FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
LEESBURG, Virginia / PR FREE / Oct 19 2004 --
When Michelle Aarnes and her husband decided to start a family, Aarnes knew she wanted to work from home. The thought of leaving a newborn in someone else’s care was unbearable. And as a former Sales Assistant who had worked twelve years for a well-known financial management company, sales – which might seem daunting to other prospective entrepreneurs – seemed natural to Aarnes.

She was uninterested in the usual mass-marketed household or beauty direct sales products, however, and in working to earn another company profits. Instead, being the self-starter she is, Aarnes chose to focus her creative energy on handmade, custom jewelry that she designed and produced herself.

“When I started to make jewelry for myself, my daughter, my family and friends, I knew I had found my niche,” Aarnes recalled. “Everywhere we went, someone would ask where they could buy the kind of bracelets we were wearing.” Receiving such positive comments about the jewelry inspired Aarnes to open her own online store, DoodleBug Creations, in April 2002. Her unique line of specialized mothers' and grandmothers' bracelets soon grew to include customized baby jewelry, much to the delight of her customers, many of whom chose Aarnes’ creations knowing they would become cherished possessions.

At the same time, Aarnes realized that children with medical conditions such as diabetes, or severe allergies to certain medicines or foods, often refuse to wear traditional medical alert bracelets because they aren’t attractive or trendy enough. So she designed a line of unique, engraved, medical alert bracelets that are fashionable, fun, and chic. And as a way to help support the search for a permanent cure for juvenile diabetes, $5 for every diabetes bracelet designed is donated to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation. It’s Aarnes’ way of giving back to her community.

After relocating to Va. in April of this year, Aarnes hopes to reach out to her new community by offering unique fundraising opportunities for women’s shelters, survivor groups, and other organizations that support women and children. “I’m anxious to contribute my talents and become involved with community non-profits and business associations,” she said. Her past successes inspire this work-at-home mom to continue to achieve her goals.
