Advanced DNA And Clinical Laboratory Testing For Physicians Now Available From A Single Source - Genelex And Sterling Reference Laboratory Joint Venture

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
SEATTLE, Washington / PR FREE / Sep 29 2004 --
SEATTLE/PR FREE/September 15, 2004 --- Genelex Corporation, a DNA testing facility, and Sterling Reference Laboratory Inc., a blood testing laboratory, today announced that they will jointly provide pharmacogenetic and other advanced genetic tests in addition to their menu of clinical diagnostic and toxicology tests.

Prior to this physicians would be required to order these tests separately, a barrier to acceptance of DNA testing because of the busy schedules physicians are required to maintain. According to the Journal of the American Medical Association, 106,000 people die annually from adverse drug reactions, a number that could be greatly reduced by the adoption of pharmacogenetic testing in medical practice.

“We are pleased to offer Genelex’s pharmacogenetic testing as part of our broadly available menu of service offerings for physicians,” said Evans Calas, president and general manager of Sterling Reference Laboratory. “Many of the physicians we work with have been asking for this valuable test to help improve patient care. This partnership with Genelex will increase access to the most advanced pharmacogenetic technology that can make personalized medicine a reality.”

“Medicine is still being prescribed in a one-size-fits-all manner, even though over half of the population has testable genetic variations that affect their ability to process drugs. The need for increased access to pharmacogenetic testing is clear,” said Genelex Corporation’s Chief Executive Officer, Rohit Joshi. “This new marketing and distribution relationship with Sterling will allow us to reach significantly more physicians. Physicians need pharmacogenetic testing to develop appropriate pharmaceutical regimens for their patients, thus increasing the efficacy and safety of the prescription, over the counter and herbal medicines their patients are on.”

Genelex Corporation, started in 1987 is a provider of comprehensive genetic testing services to medical professionals and the general public.
Sterling Reference Laboratory provides a full range of clinical and toxicology laboratory testing services tailored to the needs of individual physicians. Both laboratories are fully accredited, licensed medical test sites.
